The lineup for 2022 by Sony TV looks impressive, especially after their announcement at CES 2022 of Bravia XR 4K and 8K TV lineup launch. Ranging from X90K LED to Master Series Z9K 8K TV, world's best TV manufacturers have a vast repertoire of TVs to suit different budgets. Another noteworthy thing that happened during CES 2022 was that Sony unveiled A95K QD-OLED TV. It is a next-gen TV and first QD-OLED to be presented by any well-known TV manufacturer. If we look at the specifications, this TV will be delivering everything that is expected from this new panel technology.

2022 & The Brand New Sony TVs

Sony Master Series – Z9K 8K Mini LED TV

It is a flagship 8K Sony TV for people looking for the best picture quality. This TV has XR Backlight Master Drive, which provides excellent contrast and truly deep blacks.

Sony Master Series – A95K QD-OLED TV

This TV brings in significant improvements over precursors and has a QD-OLED panel, which according to Sony would be helping in boosting color brightness by as much as two hundred percent in comparison to conventional TVs. This TV will be capable of adjusting brightness during glare peaks and also for shadowy blacks. The benefit will be that the overall picture will not look too dark or washed out.

In addition, it will maximize brightness and control contrast better due to its new heat dissipation technology and XR cognitive processor, giving A95K an edge over other OLED screens.

Sony X95K 4K Mini LED TV

This TV utilizes mini-LED technology, that is powered by Backlight Master Drive tech. This technology was implemented originally in Z9D some years ago. X95K offers best contrast control with less blooming and high peak luminance.

Sony Master Series A90K & A80K 4K OLED TV

These are the new OLED TVs with latest OLED panel providing high peak luminance and temperature distribution mapping. Both of these OLED TVs have refresh rate of 120Hz (similar to what we have in A95K) and 2 HDMI 2.1 ports offering 4K resolution.

Sony X90K 4K LED TV

It is one of the affordable options in the lineup for 2022. However, it does not compromise on quality. For instance, the XR cognitive processor technology is same as used in other expensive models. X90K also has full array LED panel that offers crystal clear picture quality.

Sony TVs for 2021

Let us review some of the noteworthy Sony TVs for 2021.

Sony Z9J Master Series LED-LCD 8K TV – 85 & 75 Inches

Z9J utilizes cognitive XR processor for enabling feature known as XR Contrast Booster 15, which helps in enhancing contrast by improving black levels (along with good zone controls) and brightness. Moreover,  it comes equipped with top class upscaling algorithm for filling up all the pixels.

In addition, it has X-Anti reflection for reducing glares and X-Wide Angle viewing, making it possible to view all the details from every angle in a room. The color and light sensors are capable of reading ambient light's intensity and accordingly make adjustments to picture.

Sony A90J Master Series OLED 4K TV – 83/65/55 Inches

It has justifiably earned the status of master series since it is the brightest OLED TV. This has been possible because of thermal dissipation as well as the cognitive XR processor, which is capable of perfectly balancing the white and RGB subpixels to achieve extreme brightness.

A90J offers 4K resolution and 48Gbps 4K/120Hz video from 2 HDMI ports along with auto low latency mode (ALLM) and variable refresh rate (VRR). There is also support for Dolby Atmos pass through, Dolby Vision dynamic HDR, and HDR10.

Sony A80J OLED 4K TV – 77/65/55 Inches

The difference between A90J and A80J is only in terms of brightness, which is higher in A90J. Apart from that, A80J boasts of excellent specs including XR motion clarity, XR Triluminos Color Pro, and XR 4K Upscaling. If able to perform, it will be a strong alternative to LG BX OLED and LG CX OLED.

Sony X95J 4K LED-LCD TV – 85/75/65 Inches

It is less pricey compared to premium models. However, it is not devoid of useful features that include XR contrast booster that is present in Master Series and upscaling technology of XR 4K. In addition, due to Cognitive XR processor, it has XR motion clarity, X-Wide angle, and 3D audio upscaling.

Moreover, it is slimmer that 2020's X950H/XH95 by around 10mm and comes equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports for improved 4K/120 game play.

Sony X90J & X92J LED-LCD TV – 75/65/55/50 Inches, X92 – 100 Inches

X90J has Cognitive XR processor, giving it similar XR 4K upscaling that other TVs have. It also has same XR Triluminos Pro technology for upscaling 3D surround and enhancing colors.

Additionally, it comes with 4K/120 support and Dolby Atmos pass through, offering cinephile quality viewing experience without being too costly.

Sony X80J/X81J LED-LCD TV – 43/50/55/65/75 Inches

A step down model, X80J has 60Hz panel, so you will not be able to avail HDMI 2.1, which is present in X90J and above TVs. But, it does have Google TV platform, 4K HDR panel, and X1 processor. In UK, the X81J variation includes advanced motion processing capabilities.

Sony TV 2022 - Technology

In terms of technology, there are several new things. First being the QD-LED panel technology, offering perfect blacks and 200% color saturation compared to usual LED-LCD TV screens. Moreover, the chip in Cognitive XR processor enhances viewing quality.

The TVs in 2022 lineup utilize the new platform, Google TV smart platform rather than Android TV platform. Benefit is that users have a Chromecast with Google TV platform that is within their TV and you will not have to buy a separate streaming stick. There is built-in support for Google Assistant and TV can also be connected to Amazon Echo and other smart speakers.

A large percentage of TVs in 2022 lineup will be supporting 4K/120Hz, having 2 HDMI 2.1 ports of 48Gbps. Additionally, Master Series will be having 3rd HDMI post enabled with 8K/60Hz. For gamers there will be features such as ALLM and VRR, which will facilitate smooth pictures and responsive play. Similarly, enhanced audio return channel or eARC will facilitate lossless audio transfer from your TV to any connected sound bar.
