4K Vs. OLED: Which one is better?
4K refers to screen resolution of 3840x2160 pixels with aspect ratio of 16:9. On the other hand, OLED is a type of technology that is used for creating displays having varied resolutions.
Nowadays, a majority of TVs getting sold are LCD TVs, which are referred to as LED LCD TVs since they utilize LED as back light for the device. The LEDs are present at the back of liquid crystals and can be present behind the panel (back lit) or on the sides (edge lit). These LCD LED TVs enhance contrast levels compared to fluorescent based LCD TVs. Moreover, LED based panels are able to present deeper blacks, giving images greater depth and display vibrant colors.
With 4K technology, these LCD LED TVs offer much better picture quality compared to older TVs and you will not be able to view individual pixels even when you get too close to the screen. In addition, these TVs are available in different sizes for you to select from.
However, these televisions are not able to create true black. For instance, if there is a black out scene, uneven brightness can be noticed and there will be deficiency of shadow details in screen’s dark sections.
These TVs have diodes, which emit light when electricity passes through them and these diodes glow either blue, green, or red. OLED TVs tend to be very thin due to the fact that all pixels functions as their own source of light and do not require back lighting. The benefit of such pixel level self-illumination is that these televisions are able to deliver contrast ratio of unprecedented level as well as excellent brightness compared to back lit LED TVs.
In addition, these OLED TVs provide a lot more energy efficiency compared to other TVs. Since, individual pixels can be turned off, it becomes possible to achieve total blackness on the screen and more brightness can be created by using less amount of power. Contrast ratio of unprecedented level also means these televisions are capable of delivering darkest blacks and the whitest whites. However, these TVs are available in 55 inches or even bigger sizes and are more expensive in comparison to other televisions.
OLED Vs. 4K LED TVs
Unlimited brightness and brilliant whites become possible due to LED back lighting present in 4K LED TVs. But, OLED TVs do not have back light and size of all individual OLED pixels tends to limit the level of brightness an OLED TV is able to produce.
